Matt Maradeo, a graduate of Panther Valley High School, played baseball for Northampton Community College in 2002 and 2003 and was named All-Conference and All-State both years. The 2003 EPCC Tournament MVP, Maradeo set five individual pitching records during his tenure at NCC; most games started, most games pitched, best won/loss record in a career, most wins in a career and best earned run average in a career.
After Northampton, Maradeo transferred to Kutztown University where his 2.17 ERA in 2005 ranked 6th all-time in program history. Maradeo compiled a 14-8 record, with 173 strike outs and only 48 walks in his two seasons at KU. He earned PSAC first team All League honors and ABCA North Atlantic All Region honors in 2005-06 and signed as a free agent with the Chicago Cubs prior to the 2006 major league baseball draft.
During his first professional season, Maradeo appeared in 12 games for the Arizona Cubs (Rookie League) going 1-1 with 14 strikeouts in 19.1 innings. During Class A ball in 2007, Maradeo recorded a 2.96 ERA and struck out 45 in 46 innings.
